SPRINGTIME NEWS 28/08/2010
Congratulations to all teams who secured results this weekend.
MPL Winners Woolston Tech threw a spanner in the works of the Rams quest for 4th spot today, accounting for our lads 5-2 in a fairly open and hard fought game.
With one game remaining against Western at home on Sep 11th, the Rams have resurrected their season over the past few weeks with 4 wins that have taken them to 5th on the table, and well clear of this season's automatic relegation.
With Burnside sharing points in their match today and Halswell defeated, it will come down to the wire as the teams face each other in their final match.

Don't forget, prizegiving tickets are on sale now, and there will not be door sales on the night, so get in now! Check out the Calendar of Events section for info on the event and ticket purchase.
UNBEATEND WEEKEND FOR THE RAMS 16/08/2010
What a weekend for our senior club, with all teams unbeaten and taking points away from their matches. Congratulations to all.

Another calm, match-winning finish by Alex Williams added to Danny Attwell's earlier pin-point header, to give United the win and a crucial 3 points against a spirited Halswell side on Saturday in the Matson's premier league.
An earlier goal-keeping error had gifted Halswell a 1-0 lead with 30 minutes to play, but the lads showed fantastic resilience and workmanship to turn possession and attack Halswell. In his 2nd start for the side, goal-keeper Simon Hart made good on his error by making a series of brave saves to deny Halswell.
2 weeks ago the side were staring the wooden spoon in the face, but in 3 weekends have produced 9 points and the longest winning streak in nearly 6 years, and now have a strong chance of finishing in 4th position.

DON'T FORGET - PRIZEGIVING, SEPTEMBER 18TH!!
Tickets on sale NOW from Ryan Mahalm, Club Captain, by call/text to 021 473302. Tickets are limited, so do not delay!
BIG WEEKEND FOR MPL 7/08/2010
Alex Williams was on hand to control and calmly slot home the only goal in a hard fought and dearly needed 1-0 win over Nomads this weekend, which sees our MPL team step 6 points clear of the bottom of the table and into 5th position.
With NZ U20 squad member Matt Cox unavailable through injury and with 2 other injured players substituted during the match, our lads held strong against several waves of Nomads attack to secure the win. Goalkeeper Simon Hart secured his first start of the season, and produced several key saves to keep a clean sheet.
A key match now awaits against Halswell next week offering further opportunity to secure a 2011 MPL spot and climb the table.

Our PDL team had a much more enjoyable 2nd trip to Ashvegas, flogging the locals 6-0 with Mark Ballard greedily adding 4 goals to his season tally.
RYAN NELSEN 13/07/2010
Congratulations to Ryan for being named in the top team at World Cup 2010. He was named as one of the top defenders in the world, put together by the USA press.WELL DONE, to one of our own.
MPL Climb the Table 5/07/2010
Our MPL team climbed clear of the bottom of the MPL table on the weekend, with a resounding 3-0 win over Nomads AFC. With Nomads reduced to 10 men after 30mins and then to 9 men around the hour mark, the Rams showed strong desire to capitalise, and did so with a strong attacking performance.

New signing Eric Seekie (formerly of Chester City in the UK) showed some class in the middle of the park, displaying some fantastic ball control, distribution, a good defensive work ethic and plenty of communication in the centre midfield. Excellent attacking support play saw Matt Cox, Danny Attwell and Chris Anderson finish their chances well from close range.

We look forward to further results as we make our push for the top 4, with only a handful of points seperating half of the teams.
NEW PLAYER 1/07/2010
We have great pleasure in announcing the signing from Chester City in the UK of ERIC SEEKIE.Eric has played professionaly for many years in different leagues in the North West of the country. We wish him well for his time at United.

FOOTBALLING HEAVEN 21/06/2010
Just how good is it feeling to play football in our "Rugby playing" country right now. The All Whites are achieving sporting feats that are simply un-matched by any sport in our country. Let's hope for another solid turn-out against Paraguay as we vie for a berth in the final 16!

Interested in a road trip to Nelson? Why not follow our first team lads as they travel to take on league-leaders Nelson at Saxton Field this weekend!
A MIXED WEEKEND 8/06/2010
The weather gods smiled on us this Saturday, giving some much needed respite from rain and a chance to play. Unfortunately it appears the football gods were perhaps looking the other way, and there were perhaps some rusty legs out on the pitch, as our teams experienced some fairly mixed results. Heartbreak for our MPL (2-2 vs Halswell) and PDL (3-3 vs Cashmere) sides who conceeded in the last minute of stoppage time in each of their games to draw their matched and drop 2 valuable points. Monday's English Cup Fixture didn't prove any better for the MPL side, who after 120 minutes in terrible conditions were then ousted 4-2 on penalties by 1st Division Coastal Spirit.

Congratulations to the Div 6 and Presidents sides who recorded wins.

CLUB NIGHT - 12th JUNE All senior club members and friends are invited to attend the monthly club night this Saturday 12th June from 7pm at Mac's Brew Bar on Poplar lane. We have a bar tab to use and as usual it is a great chance to catch up with your clubmates.
CONGRATS - SILVER CLUBMARK ACCREDITATION 1/06/2010
Following on from our club earning Bronze Accreditation in November 2009, Christchurch United Football Club has now successfully secured Clubmark's SILVER level accreditation, for the continuing improvement of our club's operational procedures and performance. A massive congratulations to the junior and senior committee, and all other club members who played their part in this outstanding achievement. Clubmark is an independent body who audit and award certification to sport clubs. Silver accreditation puts us above many of our competitor clubs in the Canterbury region.

GENERAL BUSINESS
Those who have purchased or wish to purchase team photos for the MPL, PDL or Div 6 Teams, AND those who have ordered a training jersey are reminded that payment is required urgently to Ryan Mahalm, Club Captain.

Ryan can be contacted on 021 473302 or found at training at Spreydon on a Tuesday and Thursday evening (when it's bloody open!)
MPL TRIUMPH 4-0 OVER BURNSIDE 24/05/2010
How refreshing to see the boys take to the pitch in anger on Saturday, over-powering a Burnside team who never had a chance to get out of the blocks.
May not have been the prettiest game, but it was a fantastic example of how capable as a TEAM our lads can be when everyone puts in their full effort. Favourable results elsewhere mean that wins in our upcoming 1-2 matches could put us as high as 3rd on the table.

Well done to our other sides who achieved maximum points on the weekend.
AN IMPROVEMENT... 27/04/2010
Some better results across the senior club on the weekend, with some highscoring wins, great to see a number of players finding the back of the net!
Bitter disappointment for the MPL side going down to Halswell in a scrappy game which saw the side reduced to 10 men for the final 25 minutes. Our Div 5 side returned from a long road trip and a miserable day at Methven to sustain a 1-0 loss.
Time to throw the long studs, the brolly and the thermos of hot soup in your kit bag - winter's here!
MIXED RESULTS... 21/04/2010
A heartbreaking 92nd minute goal by Ferrymead Bays to sink our MPL side capped a frustrating weekend for a number of our teams. On the positive side, many teams did show a marked improvement, and we look forward to a productive upcoming weekend.
Congratulations to our PDL, Presidents and Women's team for securing wins.
BETTER LUCK NEXT WEEKEND! 13/04/2010
Congratulations to our new Presidents side who recorded a 2-1 win against rivals Coastal Spirit, and to our ladies team who took a point with a draw against Waimak.
All other senior teams unfortunately failed to fire, with a selection of close losses and a couple of embarassing hidings!
Let's all hit the training paddock with intensity this week so we can bounce back and get our season off the ground!

Also a big thank you to the 70 strong crew who attended our very enjoyable kick-off party. Keep a look out on this site for upcoming social events..
SEASON KICK OFF! 9/04/2010
We wish the best of luck to all the Rams as they take to the paddock this weekend!
In celebration of this, we are holding a function this Saturday night, 10th April, 7pm at the Mac's Brew Bar on Poplar Lane (central city, off Lichfield Street). There will be a $10 cover charge with all proceeds going to the club, and your $10 will give you cheap drinks for the night and entry into a mystery raffle!
Players, partners and supporters from all senior teams are invited along to mix, mingle and drink away the aches and pains of your first league game!
FIRST WIN 3/04/2010
A very positive win 1 - 0 first up against Ferrymead Bays, played on an awful pitch at QE2 with several key players missing for one thing or another. The United players who came in to the starting line-up fitted in very well, as if they hadn't been away. They say that it is a sign of a good side that don't play at their best but still manage to win.
Chris Anderson (player of the day) ran himself to the ground as always. The winning goal was scored by Stu Kelly only a couple of minutes into the game.
The 17th grade United boys did a great job as ball boys and we trust they enjoyed the day. Next up Nelson at QE2, 2.15pm kick off next Saturday 10th. Our reserves kick off their season on the same day also at QE2, and our fellow senior teams also commence their season that day - good luck to all!
Christchurch United - WINNERS of Coastal Spirit Pre-season Tournament! 28/03/2010
Our MPL side picked up their first piece of silverware for the 2010 season today, sweeping aside Western AFC to win the Coastal Spirit Pre-Season Tournament for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.
A windy day and a fairly average playing surface denied either team the chance to play attractive football, however Chris Anderson and Glen Mitchell (Captain) finished their chances well to secure a 2-0 victory.
Unbeaten in 4 games, we look forward to our MPL side continuing their winning streak, as they commence the league next Saturday, at home to Ferrymead Bays.
MPL TEAM ADVANCE TO FINAL 24/03/2010
After drawing 1-1 at full-time with Woolston-Technical and going to penalties, the Rams' sealed the win with 5 penalties to Technical's 3. Goalkeeper Robbie Barraclough picked correctly to deny Technical's 4th penalty taker, with Chris Anderson netting United's 5th to take our boys through to the Grand Final of the Coastal Spirit Pre-season Tournament.

The final kicks off this Sunday 28th March at 3pm, Eric Adam Stadium, Linwood. Make sure to be there to cheer the lads on as they face fellow semi-finals winners Western.
MPL TEAM ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINAL 16/03/2010
Our MPL team put on an excellent footballing performance this evening, with a convincing 3-0 victory over Halswell in the Coastal Spirit Pre-season tournament. Well constructed play saw Stu Kelly (55') and Chris Anderson (65',75') taking chances well in the 2nd half, helping take the team from a first round loss to finish top of our group and moving forward into the semi-finals.

Come and support the boys next Tuesday as they continue their campaign to secure the season's first trophy.
